While the world is adjusting to a “new normal” during the COVID-19 epidemic, the word “resilience” is making headlines, looking at people, companies, and societies. We hear those terms applied to self-healing power grids, water systems, memes, and shows on Netflix. 

Just a few years ago, the key element of the control room wallboard was the one line – the single schematic for the entire electric grid.  Today that’s no longer the case. Our world is far more complex and challenging, and only becoming more so. To that end, we thought it would be helpful to create an ongoing conversation about the issues that affect control room operators, such as human performance improvement, our interaction with technology, and the ability to maintain situational awareness in increasingly complex environments. Our aim is to continuously address new and relevant themes across this spectrum, ranging from technology to psychology, all with the electric grid and control room operator in mind.
